WARNING: This is NOT a resort type golf course. The course is very difficult with tough Bermuda ruff. The greens are generally surrounded by sand traps and are very firm and fast (some of the fastest I have played in my 35 years of golf). We played on a Thursday and the pin positions were tucked to the edges and the greens were very hard to read (3 putt city). The course and greens were in excellent condition. Unless you are a single digit handicapper your score is going much higher than usual. My rating is based on the idea that a resort course is set up for the average Joe. If rated as a pro course I would give it 5 stars.

Mauna Kea Golf Course, located on the northwest coast of Big Island, lies at the very end of the lava field of the volcano Mauna Kea. Here you'll find a championship layout that ranks with some of the best in the Hawaiian Islands. A must to include on your Hawaii Island play list.
