Red White Course at Mistwood Golf Course Ratings & Reviews
about 1 month ago
I wanted to play a round of golf while visiting traverse city from Ohio. I searched around a head of time, reading reviews and comparing rates. I didn’t want to spend a considerable amount so I settled on Mistwood, as it seemed the best value based on reviews. Again, I’m from Ohio, so things may naturally be cheaper there than compared to Michigan, but boy our courses are sure a hell of a lot nicer for the money too! For the condition that Mistwood was in I would expect to pay around $20 for 9 holes and a cart. The greens were extremely soft and slow. The bunkers looked as if they hadn’t seen maintenance in years. And the tee boxes appeared as if mini land mines exploded everywhere, due to unmaintained divots. What I will give the course is the layout. I enjoyed the variance that each hole offered and the challenging undulation. Unfortunately I would not recommend the course to anyone nor would I visit it again.

Fun golf course with 27 holes. Mixture of tree lined & wide fairways. Great for women & juniors. Won't beat up the high handicapper.

I'll start with the positives- the fairways were in pretty good shape and the staff was very friendly. When we arrived, we were met in the parking lot by a polite young man who took our clubs to our carts.
Unfortunately, that's about where it ended:
The greens were horrendous! They were baked and lacked turf coverage on probably 75% of the ones we played. Where the greens weren't baked, there was moss growing on them. Many of the tee boxes (we played the tips) had similar issues; they were beat up as well.
When our round was complete at 6:00 p.m., we went in to get a soda at the snack shop (in the basement) and were told that it was already closed for the night and the bartender had no bottles of Powerade or soda available either.
Mistwood used to be one of my favorite destinations while visiting Northern Michigan; it was always affordable and in great shape. It's sad to see what has become of this once beautiful treasure.
