Briar At Mesick Golf & Country Club Ratings & Reviews

This course is under new ownership and now call Antioch Hills. My buddy and I recently played 18 and there were a number of things we did not like about the course. First the tee boxes do not match the score card. The score card indicates they have 4 sets of tees, black, blue, white and yellow. However the tee boxes only had black, blue and yellow tees and those did not match the signage on the holes which showed they had red tees. How hard would it be to have tees that matched the score card? Also the grass on the fairways was long and you got almost no roll on your tee shots. I was loosing 30 yards on my tee shots as compared to other courses that I play in Manistee County. In addition the fairways were not cut very wide (some looked to be less than 50 yards wide) and when your ball was off the fairway you really paid for it as the rough was really long and very tough to get the club on the ball. I do not expect "US Open" rough at a course for the average golfer. Fairways had a lot of crabgrass on them too. Greens were in good shape as far as grass, however the greens were really slow, causing chips to not roll out and lots of putts were short. Not a very consistent roll on the greens at all.
I suspect most of the 4 star reviews come from the owners of the course or their friends. Will not be back anytime soon.

What a beautiful course! The price for 18 holes is reasonable. I've played some of the other courses this summer and keep coming back to Briar. Jeff is an awesome instructor. One of the few who actually knows what he's doing. If your looking for fun with some buds and don't want the hassle of the other places around, come on out. You won't be disappointed.
