Salt River is a course that got stuck in the 1970's / 80's. That being said there is some charm to this old course. However that charm might not be enough to overcome the sheer lack of care the fairways suffer from. A few years back they lost a lot of trees to the ash bore infestation, which have yet to be replaced, leaving stump after stump of dead wood clogging up the view. Fairways bleed into each other without a tree line. Sand traps are matted and hard packed, chipping out of a trap can feel like chipping off of dry packed dirt instead of sand. The good side, this course is home to the river on which its named. A winding ball devouring river that snakes through a better half of the course, adding a element of challenge. Both long and short holes for players of all types. Competitive pricing, lots of carts, and a staff that is down to earth, and are helpful and polite.

I've played here on and off with leagues and for fun for over 20 years - I just played again on June 2, 2013. I've never seen the course is such an unmaintained status. There many dead trees and hazards due to poor condition of the course. Obviously they have not put any money into this business in a very long time. Even the parking lot and cart paths are falling apart. That's bad enough, but we were also harassed by what I now call "the course Nazi" who charged up to the ladies in our foursome with a hot attitude and aggressively told them to "speed up your play or I am going to kick you off the course". Wow! When the natural response to this type of customer service was given, he responded by saying "don't give me any crap - I make $8 bucks an hour and don't need to put up with you. I'll kick you right out of here". Wow again. A report to the manager resulted in indifferent shrugged shoulders . I don't know what's happened to this course and its management since last season, but I have never experienced such rude grounds keepers. They need to re-think how they treat their customers. Maybe a friendly approach would leave customers a bit happier. If you're looking for a relaxing, enjoyable round without any pressure to get on and get out from course management, I would not recommend playing this course. If you are a beginner or intermediate player, I would not recommend this course - you'll be pressured to "speed it up". If you're an experienced player looking to play great local courses, look elsewhere - the course condition is horrific. Don't be tempted by their cheap prices. There are too many great courses in southeast Michigan to waste your time playing here. If you run a league and are looking for a place to play, there are way better options around town. It's shame this course has fallen so far. It used to be a very nice course and a great option in the area. No doubt, it's best days are behind it. Maybe when it's sold (it is for sale, btw) the new owners can to revive it to it's glory days. When that happens, I'll play there again and will update this review. Until then, they'll never see another dime from me.

The worst golf course I have ever been on. I can't believe they allowed powered carts on it. It was so wet. The place was destroyed. So sad. No golf shop to pay for your round; you walk through the lounge and pay the bartender, pathetic. I can't believe I dressed up in my Polo pants and shirt. This is the kind of place where Happy Gilmore would feel at home.
