Had a great time with some of the nicest people you'll meet. Stockton lake is perfect for boating/swimming. Happy O's is the perfect simple lake getaway

I booked this location knowing it was a "budget" lodging, however, what we had would make Motel 6 seem like a five-star resort. First, the photos on the ad show a kitchenette and it is listed as such. The advertised photo shows a stove, large fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The room we were provided had only a small fridge, no stove. Cupboard contained two plates, two small bowls, two short whisky-type glasses, two small coffee mugs. Drawer contained silverware for 2 people and a can opener. Instead of the advertised stove, there was a small toaster oven which was practically new. The fridge freezer section didn’t work since it didn’t have a separate door, so everything we put in there (our TV dinners) ended up defrosted and packaging soggy. The temperature in it was set to middle (to conserve energy?) but the regulator knob was (intentionally?) removed.
We had planned on having a kitchen as we booked an extended stay (5 days, 4 nights)---the ad states “kitchenette—a place where guests can cook their own meals”. The nearest place to eat is 20 minutes away and everything in this small town closes by 8pm---unless you like gas station food there isn’t much to choose from to offset that you only have a microwave/toaster oven to “cook” with.
The WiFi is so slow you can’t even load a basic webpage, and more often than not there is NO CONNECTION. Most of the time, the connection is Poor, as per our laptops and smartphones. The “Air Condition” consists of a unit with too small of BTUs for the size of the room ---even at full blast in the heat of the summer you couldn’t get the room to a comfortable temperature. From the look of it, the filter hadn’t been changed in years and the when on it would fill the room with a very musty odor (not pleasant at all). On the outside, it leaked green-ish liquid akin to antifreeze from a car radiator. Finally, the towels provided will last you two days at most if you don’t shower every day. The room came with only one extra trash bag and only one half roll of toilet paper.
It is advertised as a secluded and quiet place---remote would be a more accurate description. The hotel has barely any outdoor lighting---the light goes out when the sun goes down making the place seem quite ominous. There are several buildings and houses nearby and quite noisy neighbors. There was a group of boys setting off fireworks 3 nights in row well past midnight within yards from our door – we peeked multiple times to check the proximity to our car (this Fourth of July but also Third and Fifth). The next day there was garbage everywhere. Needless to say, owners did nothing to intervene or at least mediate – we do understand that the owner wants and needs friendly relations with neighbors.
The pool advertised is in a sad state---from the looks of rust and neglect it hasn’t been functioning in at least a few years. The “resort”, “recreation room” was locked the whole time---again, doesn’t look like it has been functioning for years. The on property grills—as advertised are so old and rusted they practically fall apart when you try to open them.
The only accurate thing in the description is the proximity of the lake/docks---unfortunately it is overly crowded and shallow---not great for swimming. Pretty view but not great if you are there for shore fishing.
Overall of the things advertised:
• Kitchenette (No)
• Great Fishing spot in walking distance (No)
• A/C (Not really)
• Wifi (No – in name only)
• Quiet Space (No)
• Docks/lake nearby (Yes)
• Pool (No)
• Recreation Room (No)
I wasn’t expecting a five-star resort (despite the ironically named Sportman Resort and Boutique Hotel monikers). I was however, expecting an honest description and accurate amenities. For the price you could pay less at a Motel 6 and actually get all the above amenities.

We just stayed here over Memorial weekend. Everywhere was already booked and I happened to call and snag a spot for our fifth wheel, which is huge and not super easy to get in/out of places. We had the best experience! The owner greeted us and checked in with us daily, just to ensure we were happy and had everything we needed. The people who are locals and live in the area, nearby are all so kind. The boat ramp was close, easy to access, and perfect for being able to keep our boat on the water while we were there. This is an older sports camp, and not everything is still in working condition. However, if you are looking for a more private area with impeccable management, this is your spot. We truly feel like we lucked out and instead of dealing with State Park and the local Corps campgrounds, this is where our family will be visiting when we come to the lake! Thank you!
