Pickering valley is in desperate need of major renovations. The clubhouse and facilities need equal attention. The course layout brings a lot of elevation into play. It’s light on bunkers and the rough is short. The greens are sized well and have lots of undulations. But that’s where the positives stop. The problems start with the bare dirt (mud) tee boxes and go all the way to the green. The whole course suffers from poor drainage. This leaves low lying areas mud pits and balls plug frequently. The bunkers are thin on poor quality sand. The greens have terrible drainage and are grossly under seeded. There’s a strong grain that makes pace control a nightmare because the grass is thin and bare dirt is exposed through it. I’m typically an above average putter and I desperately struggled on these slow and inconsistent surfaces. The clubhouse is old and needing updates, especially the restaurant and bathrooms. Although the food we had was good and the service friendly. LASTLY: the clubhouse and the course are infested with yellow jackets. Yes BEES. There’s a large bee infestation in the soffit of the clubhouse and they are everywhere on the first tee box. Later in the round when you think you’ve put the bee storm behind you, you’ll seek shelter from them swarming at trash cans on the tee boxes. I stumbled upon a nest that had been knocked out of a tree and was lying on the ground. Before I realized it was there, two bees found my legs and lit me up— this was just off the fairway. Don’t believe me about the bees? They even have signs on the course near hot bee areas— yea, seriously. I would’ve preferred a bee-suit over a scorecard today. Never returning

This review is for the driving range since I stopped playing the course years ago because of the poor conditions. I've got a few issues with the range. The biggest issue is the age and condition of the range balls. In a bucket of 50 balls, you are lucky to get 15-20 that are actually in decent condition. The rest are either cracked, cut or dead. Most of the balls are at least 15 years old and some of them have probably been in circulation since the course opened in 1985 (not kidding). The hitting area is not level so if you like practicing your uphill shot, this is the place to go. Finally, the grass on the range can be hit or miss. Sometimes its decent but other times it is very sparse. I was there last night and it was mostly dirt with a bit of grass here and there. I've decided to stop going there since it is a complete waste of time and money to hit garbage balls off an uphill lie from dirt.

A fun, home course. Just became a member and play there a few times a week. Great variety of holes and gorgeous landscape/scenery. They're really starting to improve the club and course as well.
