Lakes Course at Squaw Valley Golf Course Ratings & Reviews

I have nothing but good things to say about Squaw Valley. I’ve been waiting a long time to play here and I finally had the opportunity this past weekend and I was not disappointed one bit.
I’ll start with the service side of the courses. The guys behind the front desk were very friendly and informative. There’s a great selection of gear in case you forget anything. The greens had been aerated earlier in the week and they were knocking 50% the normal green fee to make up for it. That’s good management and service because a lot of places aren’t that generous. The snack bar had a great variety of drinks, food and beer. The snack bar attendant had a nice personality as well.
The outside staff was great too. Carts were clean with new pencils and cards. There are no water jugs on the course but there are coolers of free water bottles located at several different areas of the course which was great. There’s a pavilion and outdoor area which would make a tournament here very comfortable. The practice area is arranged well. Putting greens for both courses, short game and chipping area, and pretty good size range area.
I played Apache because I prefer links style courses but I was told by some locals that the other course is just as cool with a little more undulation. Apache is friendly from the blue tees and I’m not a very long hitter. The course overall was in great shape considering the light amount of rain this spring. There may be some bear spots close to the cart paths but I think it’s fine and feels kind of characteristic of a links course. The greens were still very sandy from aeration but you could still see a line and play it. The local guys said the greens are normally really fast and smooth and I believe them.
The only thing I would say that could have improved the day would be if the pro shop had tried to consolidate the single golfers into an existing group or put them together. I was by myself and it’s not the course’s fault but things got a little jammed up on the back nine. There was a marshal riding around making sure things did not get to out of hand. But I’ve never worked in the pro shop so I’m not sure how one goes about handling parings
Overall this course is great. I agree with a review from earlier and that I play all over DFW but if I lived closer to this course I would probably look into a membership. If things stay the way they are with Squaw Valley, then it will always be worth the drive.

The wife and I drove 2 hours from Killeen and played Commanche Links yesterday. The course was in perfect shape. The greens rolled excellent. The front 9 was a bit hard as we didn't really know where not to go. The back side was much easier. This is the get away course to go to. The price was great. We forgot a score card and the young lady on the beverage cart brought is one. Great service. Will definitely be going back up there to play.

If this course wasn't so far from my house I would play hear a lot more often.
The people here are very nice. the course fits the terrain perfectly. Some hills some valleys some open Fairways some tight.
The greens. What can I say, almost perfect.,
I almost forgot we played the back 18 holes.
Next time we play, probably the front 18. I will comment on those later.
Try it, you will like it!
