Saltire Tricolour Course at Cahoon Plantation Ratings & Reviews
14 days ago
I was in Norfolk for the day on Wednesday August 1, 2018 and I decided to play golf while I was there. Cahoon Plantation had some good reviews and good rates, so I decided to give it a shot. I was very pleased with this place! The Gentleman that was working the pro shop that day was very friendly and gave me a brief overview of the course. I really thought this course was in awesome shape overall, and wasn't too challenging to where it would frustrate someone. I really felt welcomed at this course and will definitely be coming back when i'm in Chesapeake!

Played Friday 7/20/2018. Hands down the best course I've played in the VB area. Smart/interesting layout. Soft, level tees. Beautiful fairways. Soft, fast, true greens. Smooth cart paths. Nice gas carts with ball and club washer attached. Played 18 holes in exactly 4 hours. Scott in the pro shop was super friendly and helpful. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the afternoon ranger gave me an attitude for parking the cart 10 feet off the cart path into the rough when we went to tee off on #11 even though there was a clearly beaten path of carts going off there heading toward the forward tees. He was actually hiding out about 3/4 of the way up the left fairway in the shade of a tree, like a cop hiding in a speed trap. When I was about to tee off he cut right across the fairway directly through my target line and then came up over a hill on the cart path and abruptly stopped next to the tee. I backed away from my ball and looked over at him. He just stared me down for a good 8 seconds before rudely telling me to hurry up and hit my shot, despite the fact that the next group was two holes behind us. After I hit my shot he lectured me about keeping the cart away from the tee, even though it was nowhere near the tee. It won't keep me from going back, I'll just ignore his power trip next time. So go have fun at Cahoon Plantation, its a great course. Just watch out for the 70ish, grey/white haired over zealous ranger in a light blue shirt.

I played this course in the middle of the week in late May. It was in great shape in spite of the recent heavy rain. Greens were faster than Hell's Point, and I love how they rolled on the bent grass. The course has lots of undulations, hazards, tight fairways, and long holes on the back 9. Whatever you do, stay out of the rough! Tough course, but lots of fun.
