Gunston Course at Fort Belvoir Golf Facility Ratings & Reviews

Nice club house and practice areas with nice views and patio, but the course could be in better condition throughout the year. Hopefully they hire a solid maintenance crew and greens keeper who can keep the weeds under control in the fairways, rough and around the greens. They've rebuilt many of the tee boxes but still need to take better care of some of them. Awesome course layout, just needs to be maintained better. Prices are not too bad for a public military course in the NOVA area. On weekends, it's around $40 to walk 18 holes in the morning, upper $20s to walk 18 in the early afternoon and in the mid teens to walk 4pm and after.

Played on one of the first moderately warm days of this very long "spr-inter". Grass really hadn't started growing, so fairways were pretty bare. Greens had been punched a few weeks ago, but we're rolling fairly true, though certainly slower than the greens at my country club. Course is tight and very unforgiving if you get off he fairways as the is little transition from fairways to rough. They have added some new holes to the Woodlawn course we played that are still maturing. I was annoyed by their almost random establishment of environmental areas as a means to add difficulty and penalties to holes when the area was clearly not environmentally sensitive. Locals that we played with said that one area was because a tree that protected the character of the hole had blown down. Still the golf was fun and the clubhouse is well above average for a military rec services facility. Food was ordinary snack bar food, nothing special. Enjoyable day on a decent military course. Price was definitely right.
