Cardinal Course at Newport News Golf Club Ratings & Reviews
3 months ago
The Deer Run course is the more challenging of the two 18's. If you are a hack you will enjoy the Cardinal course. Many short par 4's under 300 yards from the white tees on the front nine. After warming up on the front 9 it will then be a challenge the rest of the way. Tough par 5 on the 8th hole. Play that one smart and you may come away with a par. Fairways can be very thin of grass winter and early spring. Deer Run course is way longer and hacks beware. Similar course conditions though. Bunkers on both courses kind of suck. Very compact sand. If you can putt out of them do so lol. Fun courses though. Enjoy.

The club has nice practice facilities with plenty of parking. They have two 18 hole courses, one you can ride only & other you can walk. Courses stay in good shape considering how much play they get. Competitive rates & green fees, sometimes can be very busy on weekends, call and make a tee time.

Little to no fairway grass, substandard sand traps (the putt out of type), work cones around greens, ineffective staff and the typical slow play you get with a inner city course. Be prepared for golfers who don’t know the rules and or are rude and even scary. Won’t go back ever. One star above poor only because I grew up playing it and have hope it can be turned around.
